Amongst this dense, layered city, Hong Kong is well-known for its food and shopping facilities. Supported by efficient public transport, its commercial districts and outlying islands are easily accessible by ferries, buses, mini buses, Mass Transit Railway (MTR), trams and by foot!

Visa and Passport

All visitors to Hong Kong must have a valid passport to enter Hong Kong. Citizens of most countries do not require a visa to enter Hong Kong for tourism and can stay for periods varying from 7 to 180 days, depending on nationality. If you’re unsure of your status, please check with any Chinese embassy or consulate. You can also find further details about visa requirements on the Immigration Department website.
 
If you required an official letter to assist you in obtaining a Visa to attend the WSBE17 Hong Kong, please indicate in the registration form. The letter will be issued after the full payment of the registration fee has been received.

 

Currency

Hong Kong dollar (HK$) is the official currency. The currency is pegged to the US dollar at a rate of HK$7.8 to US$1.0. ATMs can be found almost everywhere. Many of them take international cards and withdrawals can be made with Visa and MasterCard.

 

Transport from The Airport to The City

There are plenty of public transport options available from the airport to the city.

Airport Express
The Airport Express takes passengers to Central in just 24 minutes. Train operates every 10 minutes intervals from 05:54 to 23:28 and approximately 12 minutes intervals from 23:28 to 00:48 daily.

Passengers taking the Airport Express can enjoy a free In-town Check-in service in Hong Kong and Kowloon Stations. Passengers can check in between 90 minutes and one full day ahead of their scheduled flight departure time.

A free shuttle bus service is available to take passengers from Kowloon or Hong Kong stations to most major hotels and transport interchanges. Passengers can also enjoy free porter service at all Airport Express stations. Customer services are available at Kowloon and Hong Kong stations to assist passengers who required this assistance.

Bus
Cityflyer routes offer a more cost effective method of getting into the city. The bus terminal is situated around 10 minutes walking distance away from the arrival hall. You are encouraged to check the website or hotel help desk concerning which bus number to take before boarding.

Taxi
Taxi are available outside the airport terminal. Taxis are colour coded in Hong Kong into city taxis (Red), New Territories taxis (Green) and Lantau Island taxis (Blue). Should you be staying in Kowloon or Hong Kong Island, please ensure you hire a red taxi.

All taxis operate a meter system and there are no flat fees for getting to the city. You should expect to spend up to HK$350 for Kowloon and HK$450 for Hong Kong island destinations. Tolls and luggage fees are already factored into this estimated cost.

 

Public Health

Unlike some western countries, you cannot drink straight from the tap (faucet) in Hong Kong. All travelers are advised to drink bottled water. Tap water must be boiled before consumption.
